Assistive technology benefits individuals with text-based browsers. For example, images have alt tags to describe images when content is read by a screen reader. High contrast enhances readability. Plain text scripts accompany audio and video clips. PDF files are linked to the free Acrobat Reader where most screen readers read PDF files aloud.

In addition, browsers may be set to enlarge text. Scanners may be set to enlarge text after printouts. Optical character readers (OCR) may record printed words and the text readers will give audio input.
